“With AvoMap, we’ve added stunning 3D previews of our race courses — not just helpful for runners prepping before race day, but also a game-changer for our live briefings on-site. If you're a race organizer looking to give participants a clearer, more immersive course overview, we highly recommend it.”
Animated Map Maker In Your Browser
Draw a route or drop in a GPX or KML file. AvoMap animates it over 3D terrain
— and exports the video in up to 4K.
Make an Animated Map
in three steps
- Set the route
Pick the activity, then click the start and the destination on the map. Or upload a GPX or KML file you already have.
- Style it
Choose a map style and a route colour, add markers. Turn on the dynamic camera or set the angles yourself.
- Export
Press play for a preview in the browser. When it looks right, render the video in 1080p or 4K at 60 fps.

Fly Across a 3D Globe
Flights are drawn as great circles on a globe and join up with drives, rides and walks in the same video. AvoMap knows 7,695 airports, so typing the airport code is usually enough. The flight video guide walks through it, including replaying a real track from Flightradar24.

One Video, the Whole Trip
Most trips aren't one activity. You fly in, drive to the trailhead, hike, drive back. Each leg gets its own segment with its own speed and camera, and the animation plays them in order.
Pauses go wherever you want the viewer to catch up: a summit, a city, the end of a day.

Markers, Styles, Your Logo
Seven map styles, from satellite terrain to a plain dark map, each with dawn, day, dusk and night lighting. 22 route colours. More than 100 marker presets for things like trailheads, campsites and viewpoints, and your own icons if none of them fit.
The AvoMap logo in the corner can be swapped for yours.

Why Not After Effects?
The usual way to make a map animation is to trace the route in Google Earth, export the frames and keyframe everything in After Effects. That takes hours per video and a paid Adobe plan.
AvoMap does one job. It takes a route and renders the animation with terrain and camera moves, in a browser, in minutes. If you're comparing tools, the Mult.dev and TravelBoast pages go through it feature by feature.
We have added full 3D course previews with AvoMap, which are useful not only for runners before our races but also for our live race briefings at the event. We recommend AvoMap to fellow race organizers who want to provide better course information to their participants.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the animated map maker free?
The editor is. Routes, styles, markers, camera and the preview cost nothing, and there is no subscription. You pay when you export a video, from $9 for five exports.
Can I animate a GPX or KML file?
Yes. Upload the file and the track is drawn point by point over 3D terrain. Waypoints in the file become markers. Exports from Strava, Garmin, Komoot, AllTrails and Google Earth all work.
What do I get at the end?
An MP4 in 1080p or 4K at 60 frames per second, in the aspect ratio you picked: landscape for YouTube, portrait for Reels and TikTok, square if you want it.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Drawing, previewing and rendering all happen in the browser. There is nothing to download.
Can I make an animated map without a GPS file?
Yes. Click the origin and the destination on the map and AvoMap routes between them for driving, cycling, walking or flying. You can also draw the path yourself.
How long does rendering take?
A few minutes for most videos. 4K takes longer than 1080p, and a 90-second animation takes longer than a 20-second one.
