Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 3 September 2026

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We follow the rules of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), so your data is handled with care and transparency.

1. Who We Are

Hi! We’re AvoMap — a tool for creating smooth map-based videos. When it comes to your personal data, we’re the "controller" under GDPR.

Have questions? Reach us anytime at hello@avomap.com.

2. What We Collect

Here’s the kind of information we collect when you use AvoMap:

  • Basic info: Your name, email address, and login credentials
  • Usage details: How you use the platform, device info, and your activity (like making a video). Your IP address is used on arrival to work out roughly which country you’re in, then discarded — we don’t store it
  • Payment data: Handled securely by our payment provider — we don’t store your card details
  • Referral info: If you arrived through an affiliate link, which affiliate sent you, the page that referred you, and any campaign tags on the link
  • Cookies: Used for functionality, analytics, and improving the app. You can manage them anytime

3. Why We Use Your Data

We only use your data when we have a valid reason:

  • To run the platform and let you make videos – contractual need
  • To send important emails – legitimate interest
  • To email you with tips or updates – with your consent
  • To keep AvoMap safe and fair – legitimate interest
  • To credit the affiliate who sent you and apply your referral discount – legitimate interest
  • To comply with the law – legal obligation

You can change your mind about marketing emails anytime by clicking "unsubscribe" or emailing us directly.

4. How We Use Your Info

  • To create and manage your account
  • To handle purchases and credits
  • To pay affiliates a commission when someone they referred buys credits
  • To render and store your videos (temporarily)
  • To send reminders when videos are about to expire
  • To troubleshoot issues and improve AvoMap
  • To stop misuse or abuse

5. How Long We Keep It

  • Videos: Saved for 14 days, then automatically deleted. We’ll send two reminders before that happens.
  • Account data: Kept while you’re active — and longer only if needed by law.
  • Inactive users: Accounts may be deleted after long periods of inactivity.
  • Referral code: Stays in your browser for 90 days after you click an affiliate link, then expires.

6. Who We Share Data With

We don’t sell your data. Ever.

We only share info with a few trusted partners who help us run AvoMap. They only use your data as needed and never for their own purposes. These are the ones that handle personal data:

  • PostHog (EU servers) — product analytics. Records what account holders do in the app so we know what to improve. On our public website and help pages it runs without cookies and can’t identify anyone.
  • Polar — payments and checkout. They handle card details; we never see or store them.
  • Rekomi — runs our affiliate program. If you came through an affiliate link, Rekomi learns which affiliate sent you and, when you buy credits, gets the order details from Polar to work out the commission. Card details never go to Rekomi.
  • IPQualityScore — a one-off device check that runs when you land through an affiliate link, so nobody can earn commission by clicking their own links.
  • Loops — the emails we send you.
  • Sentry — error reporting, so we find out when something breaks.
  • Amazon Web Services — storage for your maps, assets and rendered videos.
  • Mapbox — the map tiles behind the editor.
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in with a Google account.

If you sign up as an affiliate yourself, your affiliate account, tax and payout details live in the affiliate portal at affiliates.avomap.com. That portal is run by Rekomi under its own privacy policy.

If the law requires it, we may need to share data with authorities.

7. Transferring Data Internationally

Some of our providers are outside the EU. When that happens, we make sure your data is still protected — using EU-approved safeguards like Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). Our analytics provider, PostHog, is a US company, so we use their European servers and your product usage stays in the EU.

Want more info? Just ask us.

8. Your Rights

As an EU resident, you have rights under GDPR. You can:

  • Get a copy of your data
  • Fix incorrect info
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Limit how we use it
  • Move it to another service
  • Say no to certain types of use
  • Withdraw consent at any time

Just email us at hello@avomap.com — we’ll reply within 30 days.

9. How We Keep Your Data Safe

We use modern security practices to protect your info — encryption, access controls, regular backups, and secure infrastructure.

No system is perfect, but we work hard to keep your data safe and sound.

10. Kids Under 16

AvoMap isn’t meant for kids under 16. If we learn someone under 16 is using the service without permission, we’ll delete their data right away.

11. Cookies

We use cookies to make AvoMap work better and to understand how it’s used. You can control which cookies we use through our cookie banner or your browser settings.

Check our Cookie Policy for the full scoop.

12. Credits & Attributions

If we make big changes, we’ll let you know via email or in-app. You can always find the latest version on our site.
