Open a GPX file
and see what's inside.
Drop in the export from Strava, Garmin, Komoot or your watch. You get the outline of the track, its length, and where it starts and ends. The file is read in your browser.
One more click puts the same track on a 3D map in AvoMap.
Four steps, none of them hard.
This page. No account, nothing to install.
Drag a .gpx onto the page, or click Select GPX File. The file is read on your computer.
You get the shape of the track, its length in kilometres and miles, and the places it starts and ends.
Optional. One click shows the same route over real terrain in the AvoMap editor.
GPX is short for GPS Exchange Format. It's an XML file holding a list of points, each with latitude and longitude and usually a timestamp and elevation. Garmin drafted it in 2002 so devices from different makers could swap data, and it has been the common format since. Strava, Komoot, Garmin Connect, AllTrails and just about every watch or bike computer can export one.
A GPX file can hold three kinds of things: waypoints (single points), routes (planned paths) and tracks (recorded paths). Most exports are tracks. The viewer reads all three and draws whatever lines it finds.
Strava: open the activity, click the three dots, Export GPX. Garmin Connect: activity page, gear icon, Export to GPX. Komoot: open the tour, Export, pick GPX. AllTrails: trail page, Download route, GPX. Phone tracking apps have something similar in the activity menu.
If all you have is a KML or KMZ from Google Earth, use the KML viewer instead, or run the file through the KML to GPX converter first. Both are linked in the footer.
The viewer shows you the outline. The AvoMap editor puts the same track on satellite terrain, uses the elevation in your file so the route actually climbs, flies a camera along it and exports an MP4 in up to 4K.
The editor is free to use. You pay per exported video.

Same idea on every page: the file is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded unless you open the 3D preview.

Yes. Viewing a file, the stats and the 3D preview cost nothing. AvoMap charges for exported videos, and that pays for the free tools.
The file is read in your browser. When you open the 3D preview, the route extracted from it is sent to AvoMap to build that preview. The original file stays on your computer.
No. This page is the viewer, and it runs in the browser you already have on Android, iPhone, Mac, Windows and Linux. Nothing to install and nothing to update.
Not yet. This page reads and shows the file. For trimming or joining tracks you still need a GPX editor.
Anything that writes standard GPX: Strava, Garmin, Komoot, AllTrails, Wahoo, Suunto, Coros, Gaia GPS. If a file fails, it's usually not GPX at all, or it's a zipped one. Unzip it and try again.
Not on this page. The elevation in your file is kept and used in the 3D preview, where the route climbs and drops over real terrain.
