“With AvoMap, we’ve added stunning 3D previews of our race courses — not just helpful for runners prepping before race day, but also a game-changer for our live briefings on-site. GPX to Video In 3D
Upload the track from your ride, run, hike or flight. AvoMap draws it over real terrain
— and exports an MP4 in up to 4K.
Turn a GPX File
into a video
- Upload
Open the editor, click Select GPS File and pick the GPX. KML works too. The track appears on the 3D map.
- Adjust
Press play. Set the length of the video, pick a map style, add markers, turn on the dynamic camera.
- Export
Render the MP4 in 1080p or 4K at 60 fps and download it.

Flat Lines Don't Do a Mountain Justice
A GPX file carries elevation and AvoMap uses it. The track climbs and drops over satellite terrain and the camera flies alongside. Turn on the dynamic camera and it picks the angles for you.

An Elevation Profile From Your File
One click adds an animated altitude chart, calculated from the points in the GPX. Colours and style are yours to set.

Six Hours in Thirty Seconds
You decide how long the video runs. Each segment has its own speed, so a slow climb can take its time and the descent can go by in a blink. Waypoints in the file show up as markers, and you can add more by hand.

Coming From GPX Animator?
GPX Animator is a good open-source desktop tool. It is also a Java download, it renders flat top-down animations, and every tweak means rendering again. AvoMap runs in the browser, uses 3D terrain and shows the change the moment you make it.
The trade-off is plain: GPX Animator exports for free. AvoMap charges per finished video and gives you the editor for free.
No GPX File Yet?
Every tracking app exports one. Strava has a GPX download on each activity page, and AllTrails exports routes the same way. Garmin Connect exports GPX from every activity, Komoot does too (Anleitung auf Deutsch), and Wahoo devices write GPX natively.
Got a KML or KMZ from Google Earth instead? Upload the KML directly, or run a KMZ through the free KMZ to GPX converter first. The GPX viewer shows you what a file contains before you start, and the rest of the free GPS file tools convert between GPX, KML and KMZ in the browser.
We have added full 3D course previews with AvoMap, which are useful not only for runners before our races but also for our live race briefings at the event. We recommend AvoMap to fellow race organizers who want to provide better course information to their participants.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a free way to turn GPX into a video?
The editor is free without limits: upload the GPX, preview the whole animation, change styles and camera as long as you want. Exporting the MP4 costs one credit, from $9 for five. If you need free exports and can live with 2D output and a Java install, GPX Animator does that.
Does this convert GPX to MP4?
Yes. The export is a standard MP4 at 1080p or 4K, 60 frames per second, in landscape, portrait or square.
What from the GPX ends up in the video?
The track coordinates, the waypoints and the elevation. Playback speed is set per segment, so a six-hour ride can be a thirty-second clip.
Can I put several GPX files in one video?
Yes. Each file becomes a segment, and you can mix them with drawn routes and flights. A multi-day trip fits in one animation.
Do KML and KMZ files work?
KML uploads directly. KMZ goes through the free KMZ to GPX converter on this site first.
How long does rendering take?
A few minutes for most videos. 4K takes longer than 1080p.
